Course Description
Psychotherapy can be a solitary profession. Psychotherapists are vulnerable to feelings of isolation, self-doubt, caregiver stressors and emotional challenges that often give rise to compassion fatigue. As with all healthcare professionals, psychotherapists are not immune to economic pressures, the complications of relationships, illness, aging and loss––existential givens that can hijack one’s sense of wellbeing. There is also the anxiety associated with living in extraordinary times: the present state of global change and social disruption make existing with the subjective experiences of excessive stress, worry and disempowerment seem beyond our capacity to cope or respond from a stance of self-potency. Without the appropriate skillful means to cultivate and sustain positive wellbeing psychotherapists are susceptible, over time, to a diminished sense of professional/personal self-efficacy and fulfillment.
Calm & Clear is a highly experiential, continuing education workshop specifically designed to support therapist self-care. Participants will be introduced to the theoretical framework, technique and experience of Calm Abiding Meditation––a simple and elegant quiescence practice that directly cultivates focused attention, concentration, stillness, and relaxation––all in the service of therapist eudaemonic wellbeing. Participants will receive guided, step-by-step instructions that help shape and promote the experiences of:

- Open & Wakeful Presence
- Resting in Silence, Stillness & Non-conceptual Awareness

With motivated and consistent practice Calm-Abiding meditation can contribute to the identification and resolution of mental afflictions and emotional imbalances, giving rise to states of mental and physical pliancy.
While Calm & Clear is an introductory training suitable for anyone who has had little or no experience with meditation, it has the additional benefit of potentially being helpful to individuals with more extensive psychotherapeutic and meditative experience but whose progress has plateaued due to inconsistent attentional stability and mindfulness in their practice.
Psychotherapists of all clinical identifications and experience are welcome to attend.
